I come from a generation that grew up with black-and-white television, then VHS tapes, and now we’re living in a world where movies stream in 4K at the speed of light with a single click.

Back in 1985 and 1986, I was living in Cairo with only a small color TV and a trusty Thomson VHS player. With a few dear friends, we built a humble collection of VHS tapes—mostly French films recorded from TV back home. That little treasure chest of tapes became our weekend salvation.

Whenever boredom loomed, we dove into our box of movies. It was our lifeline.

Today, I’ve rebuilt that magic—except this time, it’s not VHS, but SD, HD, and sometimes glorious 4K. With subtitles. With care. With love. And I’ve made it available to all of you, wherever you are in the world. For my family, for my closest friends—including those Cairo warriors from the 80s—this is your digital treasure chest.

Every time you watch a film that moves you, that makes you laugh, cry, or dream—know that it’s a small gift from me. A piece of our shared history. A way to remember the joy of cinema and the joy of being together, even when we’re apart.

So next time you hit play and smile, maybe think of your youth… and a little bit of me.

With all my love and a big hug,

Always your friend.
