Mocky was a prolific and fiercely independent filmmaker who tackled political corruption, religious hypocrisy, and societal absurdities with dark humor and satire.
Unafraid to provoke, he carved out a unique space in French cinema, often working on low budgets and outside the studio system.
His films are unpolished, raw, and direct—characterized by moral anger and eccentric characters. Mocky’s cinema is an acquired taste, but it’s always bold and uncompromising.
Essential films:
Snobs! (1962)
Solo (1969)
The Miracle (1975)
Le Mari de Léon (1992)
